Abducted girls: Nothing is too much to ensure release – NUTGTWN

NATIONAL Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, has said nothing is too much to do to ensure immediate and unconditional release of the more than 200 girls of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, abducted over a month ago by Boko Haram insurgents.
The union in a statement by its President and General Secretary, Tunde Oladele and Isa Aremu, respectively, commended nationwide strike and protest by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Thursday May 22, 2014 “against the abduction of the female students and the heartless murder of as many as 173 teachers” by the faceless terror forces.
According to the statement “It is increasingly clear that the current security challenge is indeed an assault on our nascent depressed educational sector. Whoever abducts pupils and indiscriminately kills their teachers invariably declares war on education in a country struggling to return education to its glorious past.
We commend the leadership of the NUT led by the President of the Union, Mr. Michael Olukoya for being part of the global campaign to Bring Back our Girls and put a stop to unprovoked killing of teachers, abduction of school children and burning of our schools. An injury to pupils and teachers is an injury to all Nigerians. All Nigerian stakeholders must join the NUT to protect the education sector.
“After Almighty God, governments all the world are established to offer welfare and security to their respective citizens. Nigeria’s government is not an exception; it must guarantee the welfare and security of the citizens as contained in 1999 constitution.
The terrorists might do their worse in violence but the Federal and state governments are enjoined to do their best in preventing pupils’ abductions and serial unacceptable murder of teachers in public schools. Governments must ultimately account for teachers and pupils and make sure there is an uninterrupted educational service delivery.
We support and identify with the resolve of the union to continue the campaigns until the abducted girls are brought back safe and alive and the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to book.”
CSWYE gets project vehicles, trains drivers
Towards ensuring effective implementation of the Community Services Women and Youths Employment, CSWYE, Project of SURE-P, project implementation unit domicile in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, has taken delivery of locally-made IVM G5 sport utility vehicles recently approved for purchase by the Federal Executive Council.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Clement Illoh, who was represented by the Project Director of CSWYE, Dr. Martina Nwordu during one-day training for project drivers, stated that: “The training programme which has resource persons drawn from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), is aimed at sharpening the skills of project drivers and to ensure that the newly procured Utility Vehicles are effectively utilized guided by road safety consciousness and proper maintenance for road worthiness.”
Nwordu added that the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project, and other components of the SURE-P programme which are meant to alleviate the impact of the partial removal of the oil subsidy on the vulnerable members of the society, have recorded tremendous achievements so far.
Speaking on behalf of other participants Mr. Paul Ijeoma, a driver from Abia state Project Implementation Unit affirmed that Mr. President has positively impacted the lives of ordinary Nigerians through the implementation of the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project.
He emphasized that the driver’s training is an eye opener that could not have come at a better time and promised that the vehicles would be efficiently utilized to ensure safety and proper maintenance.
