Africa is the land of tradition and when anyone achieves a substantial amount of success, such persons are usually recognized for their positive contribution to their society.
Most times, they are usually named chief and given certain titles to celebrate their work and commitment. Here are some popular Nigerian celebrities who have been given traditional titles.
1. Chika Ike
The Nollywood actress was given the title of Akwa Ugo 1 of Amoli Kingdom of Enugu state for her contribution to the growth and development of the Igbo land.
2. Emeka Ike
The popular actor was given a Chieftaincy title as “a Christmas gift” on Wednesday, December 28, by the traditional ruler of Egbonike, in Anambra State.
The honour, according to the actor, was conferred on him in appreciation of the smiles he has put on the faces of so many Nigerians and the world at large through his acting prowess.
3. Genevieve Nnaji
In December 2014, beautiful Nollywood diva, Geneiveve Nnaji was conferred a chieftancy title.
The award winning Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji is now referred to as Chief Genevieve Nnaji (MFR), Eze Ada 1 of Amuzu Nweafor in Imo State.
4. Ini Edo
Veteran actors Chinwetalu Agu,Patience Ozokwor a.k.a Mama G, Hon Richard Mofe Damijo(RMD) and pretty actress Ini Edo-Ehiagwina, have been conferred with Chieftancy titles by the traditional ruler of Egbunike, Anambra State.
The delectable actress is a chief in Anamabra State. She was giving the title alongside other actors as a result of their excellent interpretation of movie roles that project Igbo traditions to the world.
5. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
Talented Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, a native of Ondo State was honoured with a unique Chieftaincy title in her state of birth.
The honour was conferred on the mother of four on Friday November 8th, 2013 by the traditional council of Ondo town for her contribution to the Nigerian movie industry.
Chief Omotola was installed at the 7th installation anniversary and 60th birthday celebration of Osemewa Royal Awards.
6. Patience Ozokwor
Star actress, Mrs. Patience Ozokwor popularly referred as Mama G is one of the few actresses with a chieftaincy title.
She was conferred with the ‘Ada Eji Eje Mba 1 of Ngwo’ from the people of her town in Enugu State. The event which took place at Ngwo, Enugu State on the 2nd of January 2011 attracted a lot of dignitaries from all walks of life.
7. Richard Mofe-Damijo
Richard Mofe-Damijo better known as RMD, has been honoured by enthusiasts of Igbo language on the 27th of August with the title of “Dike Oha na Nollywood” during the three-day festival.
8. Oge Okoye
For her hardwork and contributions to the growth and development of Igbo land, star actress, Oge Okoye was rewarded with a chieftaincy title in Enugu State by one of the traditional rulers in the state.
Oge Okoye was named the Igolo Nwanyi 1 of Amoli kingdom in Awgu local government area of Enugu State in 2013.
9. Ngozi Ezeounu
Ngozi Ezeonu was honoured with a chieftaincy title in Imo State on Sunday, August 12, 2012.
The light skinned prolific script interpreter was conferred with the title, Ada Ife, which means ‘daughter of light’ by HRM C.F.N Ezerioha III. The traditional ruler is the Obi of Ihiteoweri, Imo State.
She is one of the most respected Nollywood actress for her scandal free-life.
10. 2Face Idibia
Latest on this list is Nigerian legendary musician, 2Face Idibia who was recently honored in Kano.
He was honoured with the “Tafidan Kudendan of Kudendan” by the His Royal Highness Galadima of Kudendan Chiefdom. The title translates to “Ambassador of Peace”. He was joined by his wife, Annie Idibia and M.I at the event.
